Our mission is to understand what we’re doing on, and to, the Earth. This includes all of the economic and social trends that impact us. In order to see these details and work at scale, we leverage advanced computer vision and machine learning techniques. Critical to the success of this process are our data sources which are the lifeblood of our company.

In this role you will be the person who knows everything about the pixels and telemetry data we process, including: where the data came from, how it was processed, where it's stored, what metadata and bands are included, and much more. It’s a big job and it requires an intrepid professional with a keen eye for detail and who is an indefatigable defender of quality.

This is a 3-6 month contract position with potential to convert to full-time. This position can be remote.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing and tracking the flow of geospatial data into Orbital Insight and the data delivery process
  • Serves as our internal point of contact for all questions regarding our data sources
  • Acts as a knowledge source and curator of information regarding data sources at OI
  • Becomes the main point of contact to external data providers once a deal is signed, and help make the data available for product and engineering teams
  • Has deep knowledge of remote sensing, including electro-optical sensor models and sensor phenomenologies to work closely with our imagery providers
  • Tracks the internal needs of the company around geospatial data and associated tools/processes, and making sure these needs are represented in overall decision making and planning for the future
  • Monitors our data costs; escalates and troubleshoots issues with ingestion as they arise
  • Drives business level requirements for tools needed to support data sources needs
  • Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with classical image processing and operations
  • Knowledge of geolocation data such as cell phone or connected car data
  • Experience with Postgres and PostGIS
  • Advanced GIS experience preferred
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Good skills and knowledge of leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continuous improvement
  • Experience with the Atlassian stack (JIRA, Confluence) preferred
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, responsive role in a 24/7 operational environment
