Description

Orbital Insight, Inc. is currently seeking a solutions engineer to join our Public Sector team. In this role, you will help Orbital Insight grow its Public Sector practice by designing, developing and demonstrating Orbital Insight capabilities and products to our clients.
You will get to use your domain knowledge and experience to define client use cases, and then apply both your creative and technical prowess to design solutions to client challenges while having all of Orbital Insight’s computer vision, data science and cloud computing infrastructure at your disposal.
The ideal candidate can be in a morning client meeting with the sales team and articulate how a certain computer vision algorithm works to an audience of mixed technical aptitude, while highlighting Orbital Insight’s unique value propositions. Then following the meeting, write some Python code to manipulate geospatial data and visualize a complex time series, for a new use case you’ve been exploring and then finish up the day by joining an internal meeting with various product managers to describe new user requirements, and help prioritize future developments to maximize long-term revenue in the Public Sector.
In order to see detail and work at scale, we use computer vision and machine learning. Using convolutional neural networks and advanced systems engineering, our GO platform empowers our users to apply these to problem sets all around the world. We have counted over 3 billion cars across global roads and parking lots, analyzing commercial patterns as well as city growth and development. Our global energy product uses computer vision to map floating roof oil tanks and measure the global volumes of crude oil. With this product, we were able to show that China has 200 million barrels of oil storage capacity that was unknown even to the trading community. Other projects include tracking rates of deforestation, measuring poverty levels around the globe, monitoring construction rates of new roads and buildings, and predicting crop yields. This is still the beginning of our mission to understand the Earth, and as a Solutions Engineer you will be at the forefront of our efforts to empower public sector users with GO and work with them to solve their hardest problem sets.

Resposiblities

  • Collaborate with customers, business development and Orbital Insight product owners to understand and support customers’ needs
  • Apply Orbital Insight’s solutions with a strong understanding of both business needs and technology capabilities
  • Articulate client needs and objectives to product development and engineering
  • Technical contributions to RFPs and proposals
  • Complete deliverables on behalf of or in collaboration with clients across multiple public sector verticals
  • Qualification

  • US Citizen required (clearance eligible). Current clearance preferred
  • Functionally relevant experience with one or more U.S. government agencies or NGO’s
  • Ability to manage many simultaneous technical and functional responsibilities, and exercise strong interpersonal/communication skills as part of a diverse and growing team
  • Experience or familiarity with programming languages: Python, SQL, R, or other similar tools
  • Experience or familiarity with geospatial tools and software such as QGIS, ESRI, GDAL and/or OGR
  • Experience with automated analyses and machine learning applied to satellite or aerial images, and/or large-scale feature data, is a plus
