Sr. Infrastructure Engineer – Public Sector




Our mission at Orbital Insight is to understand what we’re doing on, and to, Earth. We do this through our cloud-based SaaS platform, Orbital Insight GO,
ingesting petabytes of geospatial data, then applying state-of-art AI/ML and Data Science algorithms at scale. To achieve this, the infrastructure engineering team is motivated to provide the required infrastructure for scalability, stability, and developer efficiency.
In support of the Public Sector, the infrastructure engineer will provide engineering and technical expertise to deliver the Orbital Insight product and capabilities to government customers. The efforts include deploying the GO platform to government networks, primarily Cloud, as well as, continuously re-incorporating the necessary feedback/remediations into the core codebase to keep the delivery process as robust as possible.

This position will enable an eager engineer to work with and contribute to the exciting technology of the DevOps / Infrastructure Engineering team to include:
· Deploying cloud agnostic solutions (Kubernetes/Docker) to multiple cloud vendors (Azure/AWS) that will support AI, advanced networking, distributed storage/messaging, and online/streaming processing
· Latest Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and orchestration for most repeatable turn-key deployment of cloud resources
· Best of open-source monitoring, logging, and tracing solutions for ensuring overall system health (EFK, Prometheus, Grafana)
· Collaboration with developers/engineers from different teams to continuously improve developer efficiency through CI/CD, tooling, and automation
· Attending technology conferences that will help support learning, as well as, bringing ideas from greater community that can further improve our solutions
This position will be based in our Arlington, Virginia office but may require some work at customer sites in the DC area. Currently, Orbital Insight is fully remote (working from home) until the end of the year, due to COVID. Occasional travel to corporate headquarters in Palo Alto, California may be required (only applicable post COVID).

This position requires active TS clearance.


  • Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate and identify scalable cloud solutions 
  • Designing, developing, and deploying modular systems on Kubernetes
  • Improve our existing observability framework (monitoring, logging, and tracing) to provide developers better visibility
  • Improving/support/maintain KPIs/metrics around our deployments in terms of uptime, latency, stability, and more
  • Evaluate 3rd party / open-source software with internal requirements and work with external support teams to troubleshoot
  • Continually improve developer lifecycle by optimizing CI/CD, release procedure and developer tooling
  • Be part of the On-Call team to help respond to incidents and organize resolution. 
  • Provide tutorials, mentorship, and documentations both formally and informally to engineers at Orbital Insight
  • Attending technology conferences that will help support learning, as well as, bringing ideas from greater community that can further improve our solutions
  • Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree, or equivalent experience in a quantitative field (physics, mathematics, bioinformatics, computer science, operations research, etc.)
  • Active TS Clearance required
  • 4+ years’ experience with infrastructure/DevOps engineering
  • 2+ years’ experience working with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform/CloudFormation/Ansible
  • Experience with CI/CD system such as Jenkins/Gitlab, release management, and security

  • Experience with GPUs and ML infrastructure (e.g., Kubeflow)
